Jacob Isaac was born on November 15, 1955, in Mavelikara, Kerala (India) as the second of six children of Professor Mathunny and Thankamma Isaac. Equally at home in the English language and his native Malayalam, poetry comes easily to Jacob Isaac. Right from early boyhood the gift of rhythm and music inherent in him as well as his facile use of words enabled him to produce poems as beautiful as garlands of flowers of variegated hues.
Upon completing high school at St.John’s in Mattom, he went on to study English Literature. Jacob composed many poems during his college days and published those in popular Malayalam journals. A mini epic Malayalam poem entitled Natya Graham was published right after graduating from college followed by another exquisite poetic rendition called Vakkai Jwalikkuka. These poems echoed his stream of consciousness about the enigmatic cultural traditions, ethos and their dichotomies that run deep in his poetry.
